The Kishna Jewellers heritage collection works in two traditional Indian techniques — jadau (uncut stones embedded in hot 22K gold) and meenakari (vivid enamel fused into engraved gold) — both handcrafted at our Mavdi Main Road workshop in Rajkot.

Heritage jewellery — questions answered

  • What is jadau jewellery?

    Jadau is a Mughal-era technique where uncut diamonds (polki) and coloured gemstones are embedded into a soft 22K or 24K gold base — no prongs, no glue. The gold is heated and the stones are pressed in by hand. Jadau pieces are heavier, bolder, and significantly more labour-intensive than modern set jewellery.

  • What is meenakari?

    Meenakari is enamel work — vivid greens, reds, and blues — fired into engraved gold on the reverse side of a jadau piece. Originally Persian, it travelled to Rajasthan and Gujarat. A jadau-meenakari piece reads as a two-sided heirloom: glittering stones on the front, painted miniature on the back.

  • How long does a heritage commission take?

    Heritage pieces are slow by nature. A jadau bridal set with meenakari work typically takes 8–14 weeks once the design is locked. We share a precise timeline after the design conversation; book early for wedding-season delivery.

  • Are heritage pieces hand-set or machine-made?

    Every piece in our heritage collection is entirely hand-set by karigars at our Mavdi Main Road workshop. Machine-made jadau or meenakari is a contradiction — these techniques exist precisely because the irregularity of hand work is part of their beauty.

  • Can I commission a custom heritage piece?

    Yes. Most of our heritage work is commissioned. Bring a reference photo or family heirloom you'd like reinterpreted, and we'll discuss feasibility, weight band, stone selection, and a firm quote before any work begins.
